Every first Sunday of the month, we share communion at East Liberty Presbyterian Church: My monthly astonishment at the immense power of American pastors, whether male or female, young or old, sporty or full figured. You know how we Catholics have pre-cut hosts of about 1mm thickness, that must function much like a potato chip when it comes to break-resistance?
– Well, not so here. Courageously, the pastor holds up a full two-pound loaf of bread, gives thanks, and breaks it, EFFORTLESSLY!!
I regularly catch myself in sheer admiration for such superhuman strength instead of focusing on the spiritual significance of the event for my own life.
And I remember the fundamental difference between our two continents: Crust-free bread!

ça alors, c'est PAS juste ça!
Paske moi, en tant que protestante pieuse, hein, MOI qui (en Suisse) ne mange que du pain normal lors de la sainte cène, MOI je suis forcée de manger des hostie bien dégeu (encore mieux: trempées dans le vin canadien....) ici à l'église luthéran.

Chez nous, c'un pain qui est rompu par la perssone qui fait la sainte scène. Mais "astuce", il est précoupé avant pour se déchirer d'une manière qui soit pratique ;-)

À Singapour, des baguettes... facile à rompre donc une solution bien pratique :-)
Je suis impressionné par la sincérité avec laquelle la communion est célébrée ici. Avant de recevoir le pain et le vin, on se met à genou pour confesser ses péchés. Un acte franchement un peu gênant qui me rapelle que ce n'est pas moi ici qui est au centre.

I agree mishy, biking on sand would be a contradiction. Fortunately for us, we will be HIKING on the sand. Although this does pose some issues, especially at high tide, it is much preferred to biking!
So what’s all this about NA communion practices? I couldn’t decide if you appreciated the way protestants celebrate communion, or if you preferred the Catholic/ Anglican/ high church practice of the Eucharist. The main issue is not as much method as it is the understanding behind it. What are your thoughts? Has something been lost in translation?
